In ultra deep wells, highly deviated wells, extended reach wells, and horizontal wells, the drilling time of the main frame drill pipe is prolonged, and the lateral force acting on the casing by the drill string is increased. Therefore, the friction and wear issues between the casing and the drill string are becoming increasingly prominent. The direct consequence of severe wear and tear is rapid wear and tear of the drill string, leading to premature failure; Casing wear can reduce the collapse and internal pressure resistance of the casing string, resulting in collapse, deformation, and leakage of the casing string. In severe cases, it can cause the entire well to be scrapped. Not only does it have an impact on our mining work, but in severe cases it can even pose a threat to the safety of workers' lives. Our maintenance technicians have come up with some solutions to address this issue.


The application of body rib drill rods is no longer limited to the coal mining industry. Nowadays, many industries use body rib drill rods, and the damage to the joints of body rib drill rods in many places is relatively serious. The friction problem between some supporting equipment joints of drill rods and casing cannot be ignored.


A thorough study was conducted on the mechanism of friction and wear between drill pipe and casing, the series of problems caused, and the preventive measures taken. The research content mainly includes: to explore the mechanism of friction and wear between drill pipe joints and casing, the finite element method was used to study the distribution law of contact pressure between joints and casing under different loads, and a mathematical model of maximum contact pressure and wear was established. The analysis results well explain the principle of reducing casing wear by applying single and double sided welding hardened bands to drill pipe joints, providing a theoretical basis and technical basis for the welding hardened band process of drill pipe joints. A thorough theoretical analysis and experimental research have been conducted on the problem of frictional thermal cracking of drill pipe joints, elucidating the mechanism and process of thermal cracking failure of drill pipe joints, and proposing measures to reduce or prevent thermal cracking failure of joints.
